Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has alleged that the Senate is plotting to rig the 2027 election following the reported rejection of electronic transmission of election results. Maleye, in a statement on Friday, criticised the Senate’s decision, calling it a blow to the credibility of the electoral process.

According to Melaye, the move is an explicit endorsement of election rigging and an indication of a sinister plan to rig the 2027 elections.

African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also stated that the move opens the door for electoral manipulation and fraud, stressing that the rejection of electronic transmission of results is a step backwards for democracy in Nigeria.Melaye called on lawmakers and citizens to stand up against “this blatant attempt to undermine the will of the people and ensure that future elections are free, fair, and transparent”.

Condemned the APC-led

Meanwhile, ADC has condemned the APC-led 10th Senate’s decision to reject key reforms to the Electoral Act aimed at improving the credibility of future elections and enhancing the efficiency of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Publicity Secretary

The party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, describes the action as a deliberate attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.It specifically faults the Senate’s refusal to approve the electronic transmission of election results and the rejection of provisions allowing electronic download of voter cards.

Reduce election notice periods

The ADC also condemns the decision to reduce election notice periods and drastically shorten the timelines for the publication of the list of candidates.According to the ADC, these actions expose the ruling party’s fear of free and fair elections in 2027, despite its current political dominance.
